The Max Radford Gallery is proud to present SILENCE SPLIT; a solo show of a British sculptor Samuel Collins. The show features new stone sculptures produced in his studio on the edge of the Dungeness Nature Reserve in Kent. Working primarily with reclaimed stone, Samuel treats it as both material and metaphor. The show is set in dialogue with the interior of a new showroom of a jeweller Isabella Hewitt, designed by Max Radford.
"We are pleased to be showing a new body of work by the long-time collaborator and Artist Samuel Collins at Silence Split. Samuel’s practice and exhibition calendar has been developing at pace ( Show- ing with Hauser & Wirth & New Craftsmen) since our last showing of his works so to reengage with his works is an honour for the gallery.
It will also be the 1st time exhibiting within the interior of Isabella Hewitt jewellery, completed by our own interior design team, which at 1st felt like too much of a crossover for us as a gallery but now sits well with us for this project. Isabella has taken inspiration from Samuel and his practice, shooting the look-book for her current collection at his Studio, and her and her partner are collectors of his, having purchased the 1st piece of his that we showed back in 2021" - Max Radford
‘‘This new collection of works are a continuation of studies into space, mass and time whilst exploring variations of landscape. I look to stay sensitive to a sense of memory and history within the stone, with some pieces reconfig- ured to become single structures, and others are created in isolation. The resulting works can often appear as if they were found objects, yet upon closer inspection the processes of carving, shaping and sanding reveal their forms.’’ - Samuel Collins
