Re Bar presents a new body of work by Fabio Hendry of Hot Wire Extensions, inspired by the built environment. The collection draws from rebar nets commonly found on building sites. Rebar, alongside concrete, forms the backbone of our built environment, though it typically remains hidden within architecture. Through this work, Fabio seeks to elevate and rethink these structures and make the often overlooked, yet fundamental material visible. He transposes his self-taught method onto these frames, freezing moments of broken and fragmented beauty to create a new visual language.
Part of The Practice of Learning programme curated by Jane Withers Studio,_Re Bar_ showcases the next phase in Fabio’s transmutational process of bonding the powder discarded in the selective laser sintering (SLS) 3D-printing process onto wire substructures – a technique he has refined over ten years through trial and error. This collection, marking the first collaboration with Max, has challenged the designer and his studio to work with more complex structures and explore new ways of developing his manufacturing technique. This process has fostered a continuous learning journey within his existing practice, resulting in a novel sculptural and conceptual output.
